Matthew DeCarlo is the 2020 outstanding graduate for his exceptional achievements in the Master of Science in Information Systems program. “Matthew is an excellent student who has consistently gone above and beyond to be involved in and contribute to the quality of information systems programs,” said Matthew’s advisors and professors. “In his role as a TEK Club officer for two years, Matthew took initiative to ensure club activities were well prepared for and was a supportive team member who was always ready to help another officer if needed. He has been a professional, honest, and approachable participant at many information sessions and panels for the program. Matthew has also shown himself to be a dedicated, creative, and student-responsive teacher for a new undergraduate course.” Matthew is originally from Chicago, Illinois, and plans to continue working as a Software Programmer for ARUP Laboratories after graduating with his MSIS degree. He loves being involved with ARUP’s cutting edge approaches and automation to increasing medical laboratory efficiency. It’s been especially rewarding for him as they increased capacity and have provided the all-important COVID-19 testing to the community. Congratulations Matthew, and welcome to your alumni network! What was your most memorable experience as an Eccles student?

I completed both my undergraduate degree and now graduate degree from the Eccles School. I had such an amazing experience as an undergraduate, I felt strongly that returning after a few years in the workforce was the right choice! I have countless experiences between my undergraduate and graduate career, but one that sticks out is Dr. Wagner Damiani’s AI Python Lab class. It was so fun to learn Python and Artificial Intelligence hands on with self-driving RC cars!
