Tuition

Resident Estimated Tuition
Full-Time $33,900
Part-Time $37,300
Non-Resident Estimated Tuition
Full-Time $54,000
Part-Time $66,100

The amounts listed reflect the estimated tuition and fees for all required credit hours taken over the course of three semesters (full-time) or five semesters (part-time). Estimated tuition does not include any corequisites or the cost of living. Program costs may vary depending on program sequencing. All non-resident students pay resident tuition and fees for the summer semester.

Tuition rates may change without notice. Generally, if tuition and fees increase, it occurs prior to the start of the summer semester each year. This information comes from the University of Utah’s Income Accounting and Student Loan Services, which has the most current information.

WRGP for Non-Residents

The MSIS program is approved as part of the Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) for non-residents. The WRGP allows master’s degree, graduate certificate, and Ph.D. students who are residents of the WICHE-member states to enroll in high-quality programs at 56 participating institutions outside of their home state and pay resident tuition.

The WICHE states include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam. For more information about the WGRP, visit WICHE online.

To qualify for WICHE benefits, students must show proof that they are currently residing in a WICHE-member state. For questions about WICHE or to provide more information about your current residency, contact MSISinfo@Eccles.Utah.edu.

Financial Aid

Student Loans

There are many student loan programs available to help finance graduate education. Loan programs of particular interest to graduate students are:

  • Federal Direct Loans
  • Direct Graduate PLUS Loans
  • Private Education Loans

Applicants can apply for most loans through the University of Utah Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

To begin the process of applying for federal assistance, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

International Students Note:
Applicants requiring a visa to attend school in the U.S. unfortunately are not eligible for U.S. federal financial aid. To fund their education, many international students take education loans from their home country or have family members financially support them during their studies. Additionally, we offer scholarships for international students to cover most of the non-resident portion of tuition.

Additional Financial Aid Resources

  • FinAid offers detailed financial aid information
  • FastWeb allows students to efficiently search scholarships

Resources for Veterans

The University of Utah’s Veterans Support Center provides many resources to veterans and can answer questions about veteran financial assistance, including VA Benefits.

Graduate Assistantships

The department hires one graduate assistant in the fall of each year. The student is paid an hourly rate for a set number of hours each week. The student will also receive an assistantship in the amount of $5,000.
