Ivory Boyer Real Estate Center

The Ivory-Boyer Real Estate Center at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business prepares the next generation of leaders in real estate through academic programs, degree options, executive education programs and the Utah Real Estate Challenge.

With the generous support from Ellis Ivory of Ivory Homes and Roger Boyer of The Boyer Company, the Ivory-Boyer Real Estate Center was formed in 2007 as a professional center within the David Eccles School of Business. The primary mission of the Ivory-Boyer Real Estate Center is to provide unsurpassed real estate industry education and research. Highlighted herein are three vital initiatives that have received focus since inception of the center: the Utah Real Estate Challenge, education, and research.

Real Estate Lab

The Real Estate Labs at the Ivory-Boyer Real Estate Center are weekly round table discussions with real estate professionals. All students interested in hearing from real estate veterans and networking with peers are welcome to attend.

Utah Real Estate Challenge

The Utah Real Estate Challenge (UREC) is an intercollegiate real estate development competition for undergraduate and graduate students throughout the state of Utah. The competition fosters understanding of real estate development by giving students the opportunity to prepare and present a real estate development plan to a panel of expert judges. A grand prize of $20,000 will be awarded to the student team with the most promising and economically viable Real Estate Development Plan. Second and third prizes are $10,000 and $5,000 respectively.

Meet the Director

flyn-dawson-headshot-for-webFlyn Dawson is the director of the Ivory-Boyer Real Estate Center and senior vice president of real estate at Zions Bank.

As director of the Ivory Boyer Real Estate Center, Flyn manages the advisory board, heads up the Utah Real Estate Challenge, participates in travel experiences and manages all aspects of the Ivory Boyer Real Estate Center. He is dedicated to creating opportunities for MRED students to network and interact with industry professionals.

At Zions Bank, Flyn is responsible for syndicating, originating, underwriting, closing, and managing income property loans throughout Zions’ footprint. He maintains a portfolio of commercial real estate debt facilities in excess of $500 million.

Prior to Zions, Flyn was with JP Morgan, Bank One, and Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi in Los Angeles. He is a recipient of the Wharton Leadership Certificate, a graduate of the American Bankers Association Stonier Banking School, and an adjunct professor in the University of Utah’s Master of Real Estate Development Program. Flyn received the CCIM Utah Chapter Lender of the Year in 2014.

Flyn donates his time to the community through his ongoing activity in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Utah Organization. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army’s 300th Military Intelligence Brigade.
