Kent H. Cannon has joined the Masters of Science in Finance Program at the David Eccles School of Business after 30 years in the insurance and financial services industry. Kent will serve as Executive in Residence to enhance the student’s classroom experience with project based consulting experiences in the professional community.

For 15 years, Kent was the President and CEO of Beneficial Life Insurance Company located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Prior to becoming CEO, he held the position of Vice President & Chief Actuary. Kent also worked as a consulting actuary for a regional actuarial consulting firm.

Kent comes to this new position with experience in insurance based strategy development and implementation, financial and expense management, company appraisals, acquisitions and divestitures, leadership development, product development, investment oversight, risk and asset liability management, rating agency management, distribution and marketing strategy, field compensation systems and operational efficiency.

Most recently, Kent and his wife spent three years in Boise, Idaho where he served as an LDS mission president.

Kent is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary. He holds a BA from the University of Utah in Mathematics. Kent is a former Trustee of the Salt Lake Chamber and Director of United Way of Salt Lake. He lives in Salt Lake City with his wife Laurie. They have five children.
