Debra L. Scammon is the Emma Eccles Jones Professor of Marketing and adjunct professor in the Department of Family & Preventive Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Utah, and she served as the Director of the Masters of Healthcare Administration program at the David Eccles School of Business until 2018. Scammon received her Ph.D. from University of California, Los Angeles. She recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Marketing Association’s Marketing and Society Special Interest Group.

Her primary research interest is in consumers’ ability to navigate the marketplace while making complex decisions. In the context of healthcare redesign, she studies patient-centered medical home practice models, methods for acquiring and using patient reported outcomes, the impacts of practice change on provider satisfaction, and issues faced by family caregivers. She uses mixed methods research designs with attention to the context within which redesigned care models are implemented. Recent work has been published in Health Services Research, Annals of Family Medicine, Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine, and the Patient Experience Journal.
