Timing:  We bought in the middle of the six month range.
Reason:  The aging baby boomer population will lead to an increase in the death care industry over the next several decades. SCI has strong, stable cash flows and a good business model. About 70% of businesses in the industry are small, independent operations. SCI buys businesses in geographic clusters and creates shared services for these locations, leading to economies of scale. An increase in pre-need services, where individuals or families pay in advance, has led to a significant backlog of unrecognized future revenue that we believe the market is underestimating.

Timing:  x
Reason:  Although we anticipated that funeral services would do well during a pandemic, social distancing has reduced demand for high-end services. We concluded that the short-term prospects for SCI are not strong and believe the funds could be invested more profitably.
