Internship Benefits
The Business Internship for Academic Credit (MGT 5880) gives students the opportunity to:
- Establish specific learning objectives and goals for the internship and obtain on-the-job experience related to an academic major or a career goal.
- Research career paths and employers while constructing and articulating a personal brand.
- Polish their interview, resume, and networking skills.
- Receive written feedback and evaluation from the supervisor in the job setting.
- Identify the next steps or actions to move forward in the career development process and evaluate the internship experience.
Course Details
Enrolled students will receive upper-division MGT credit for completing MGT 5880. In addition to completing your hours at your internship, class assignments must be completed by their deadline to receive credit.
This course can be taken for credit or non-credit. You must already have an internship for the semester you are enrolling in. Students may earn 0.5–6 credits, depending on their needs. To take the course for 4-6 credits, you must be working at least 40 hours a week. Most students take the course for one credit. All registration steps must be taken before the add/drop date of the semester.

Course Prerequisites
- C- or better in (OIS 3660 OR MGT 3660) AND (MGT 3680 OR MGT 3681)
- Be a declared Management major with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- The internship should have direct relevance to your major or chosen career goals and must involve new, university-level experience. Credit is given only for new learning and experiences that take place after officially beginning the internship and cannot be done retroactively (i.e., work you have already done)
- You must be scheduled to work at least 15 hours per week for 14 weeks (12 weeks in the summer)
- The internship must have professional supervision
- You must have already received your offer letter from the employer
International Students
- To be approved to start your internship, you must apply for CPT through ISSS (International Student and Scholar Services). Your CPT must be approved to enroll in this class.
