Pre-MAcc Online Track

Go from no experience to earning your Master’s degree in accounting

The Pre-MAcc program is designed for students with degrees in areas other than accounting who want to take the MAcc pre-requisites over a period of time.

Pre-MAcc Online Overview

Fall Semester

  • ACCTG 5150 (3 credits): Accounting Analytics – taken in the first 10 weeks
  • ACCTG 6731 (3 credits): Tax – taken in the first 10 Weeks
  • ACCTG 6711 (1.5 credits): Intermediate Financial I – taken in the last 5 weeks
  • ACCTG 6720 (1.5 credits)-: Cost/Managerial – taken in the last 5 weeks

Spring Semester

  • ACCTG 6711 (1.5 credits): Intermediate Financial I – taken in the first 5 weeks
  • ACCTG 6720 (1.5 credits): Cost/Managerial – taken in the last 5 weeks
  • ACCTG 6712 (3 credits): Intermediate Financial II – taken in the last 10 weeks
  • ACCTG 6750 (4 credits): Accounting Information Systems/Audit – taken in the last 10 weeks

Summer Semester

  • Start the MAcc program by taking these courses: ACCTG 5130 (Intermediate Financial Accounting III) and FINAN 5050 (Financial Management Online).

Pre-MAcc Fall/Spring Online
Resident (19 credits): $20,123
Non-resident (19 credits): $40,000

$5,000 scholarship is available to all students after completion of their Pre-MAcc courses with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. In addition, students are eligible for additional MAcc Scholarships.

Pre-MAcc Online Admission Requirements

The David Eccles School of Business seeks candidates who are professional and ethical. These behaviors are considered when making admission decisions. Candidates are expected to demonstrate professional and ethical conduct and disposition in their interactions with program staff, fellow students, and faculty.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited 4-year institution. An academic or employment background specifically in business or accounting is not required to apply to the Pre-MAcc Online program.

  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA, or last 60 credits hours GPA, of 3.0.
  • You are required to list all colleges or universities you’ve attended and provide unofficial transcripts for each. Failure to do so may result in a delay in your application process.
  • Unofficial transcripts must include the following information: your full name, the name of the school, semesters, course numbers, course titles, grades, semester GPAs, and cumulative GPA.
  • International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency to contribute to classroom discussions and interact with faculty and peers.
  • The MAcc’s minimum score requirements are higher than The University of Utah’s. You must earn a composite score of a 90 on the TOEFL, a 7.0 on the IELTS, or 105 on Duolingo (effective March 26, 2021).
  • Thoroughly read and understand the English Language Proficiency policy, and how to send your scores. Note it takes approximately 4 weeks for us to receive your official score; please plan accordingly.
  • Our TOEFL code is 4853 for the University of Utah. Please note that paper-based scores are not accepted. Send your TOEFL score.
  • During or after the IELTS exam, you have the option to select the University of Utah to report your score electronically. Send your IELTS score.
  • Duolingo: Please log into your Duolingo account, select the “Send Results” button next to your test results, and select the University of Utah as the receiving institution.
  • We accept recommendations from professors with whom you know well and supervisors from your place of work.
  • If you’re lacking in professional experience, we can accept recommendations from either a volunteer supervisor or an internship supervisor.
  • Follow the instructions on the Recommenders section of the online application in order to request your letters of recommendation.
  • Respond thoroughly to the required questions:
    • What are your career goals? What are you currently doing and what actions will you take in the program to put yourself in the best position to achieve your career goals?
    • Why do you feel prepared/qualified to join the MAcc Program?
  • Optional response:
    • The Admissions Committee will evaluate circumstances that may have affected your GPA. Take advantage of addressing any weaknesses in your application here.
  • Make sure to update your resume.
  • Include your employment history in reverse chronological order with titles, dates, and whether you worked part-time or full-time.
  • Include your education in reverse chronological order and should indicate dates of attendance and degree(s) earned.

Application Fee Details:

  • You’re required to pay a non-refundable application fee to submit your online application. Domestic applicants must pay $55.00 and international applicants must pay $65.00.
  • Applicants who apply during the rolling deadline will pay an additional $30.00. This charge will be applied after November 15th for spring submission and after April 1st for summer and fall submission.

Seat Fee Details:

If you’re admitted into the Pre-MAcc and MAcc programs, then you must pay a non-refundable seat fee. A domestic student is required to pay $185.00, while an international student must pay $300.00.

A three-credit Introductory Accounting course from a regionally accredited institution is required. If you would like to take this course at the University of Utah, please enroll as a non-degree seeking student and work with Lashelle Mann to enroll in the ACCTG 5050 online course.

You are expected to take FINAN 5050 while in the MAcc program, however you are welcome to take this course prior to starting the Pre-MAcc Online program. If you would like to enroll in FINAN 5050 as a non-degree seeking student, please complete this application and work with Lashelle Mann to enroll in this course.
