Preferential Application

Are you an accounting student with strong cumulative and accounting GPAs? Did you take your accounting courses somewhere other than the University of Utah? If so, you may qualify for the preferential application process.

Preferential applicants have the following requirements waived on their MAcc application:

  • 2 Personal Response Questions
  • Letters of recommendation

Requirements for Preferential Application

Preferential applicants must complete all MAcc Prerequisites (5000-level accounting core classes) at an approved U.S. institution. Preferential application is intended for students who completed their prerequisites outside of the University of Utah.

Preferential applicants must maintain a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.7. If your cumulative GPA is below a 3.70, you may calculate your GPA for your last 60 credit hours.

Preferential applicants must have at least a 3.7 GPA in your accounting prerequisite courses. Your accounting GPA is calculated using only the seven 5000-level accounting prerequisites. If you have completed all seven courses by the application deadline, one grade may be dropped from the calculation, but you must have at least a 3.7 GPA in six of the seven courses. To calculate your accounting GPA, use the University’s GPA calculator.

Preferential application does not guarantee admission. All admission decisions are subject to approval by the MAcc admissions committee.

If you completed the prerequisites at the University of Utah, you may qualify for fast track application.
