The David Eccles School of Business was honored to host Dan Liljenquist, Intermountain Healthcare’s Vice President of Enterprise Initiatives, to discuss a proposed solution for the overpriced pharmaceutical market at the most recent Alumni Speaker Series event.

With the increasing cost of medicine reaching astronomical prices and more frequent shortages of necessary drugs, healthcare is more unaffordable than ever. Liljenquist talked about the mission of Intermountain Healthcare, “What we’re trying to do is help people live the healthiest lives possible. And they can’t live a healthy life if they can’t afford healthcare.”

It was this line of thinking that inspired Project Rx, a new initiative launching in Fall 2018 with the purpose of making essential medications more affordable to patients. Project Rx intends to tear down the monopoly built by drug manufacturers by fighting against aggressive pricing behavior, bringing true competition to the market and ensuring a stable supply of essential generic drugs to prevent shortages.
