We are fortunate enough to have a diversely talented group of students that we can’t wait to feature in 2019 as part of our Future Alumni Friday series. On the first Friday of each month in 2019, we will highlight a future alumni representing a unique part of the #EcclesExperience.
It is our pleasure to introduce Monet Frank, our very first #futurealumnifriday feature. Monet is expected to graduate in 2020 with her degree in Marketing from the David Eccles School of Business. She is currently working in our Alumni Relations and Development office as the Student Giving chair. We asked Monet 20 questions to give you some insight into her #Eccles Experience.
- What was your first job?
My first job was teaching dance.
- What is a book you read recently? What was the best part?
I recently read a book titled “Station Eleven”. I found that the best part was, despite the post-apocalyptic setting/circumstance, the preservation of the arts was held with the utmost importance.
- What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am very proud of having been selected as an Eccles Ambassador for the David Eccles School of Business during my sophomore year. Through this opportunity, I was able to travel the world, gain valuable experience and insight into the vast and ever-changing business world, begin my journey as the school’s Student Giving Chair, and meet people that have greatly influenced and forever changed my life.
- What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Travel the world
- In what way have you been most impacted during your time at the Eccles School?
The Business Scholars Program has served as the pinnacle of my college experience. I entered the University of Utah with aspirations of pursuing a career as a pediatrician. However, understanding that business is the currency of the world, I knew that it would be in my best interest to pursue a business education to one degree or another. Little did I know that throughout my time in the Business Scholars Program I would fall in love with business and decide to declare it as my major. My freshman year with the Business Scholars provided me with life-altering opportunities, exposure to majors, industries, and professions that I had not been previously exposed to, as well as to people that would serve as friends and mentors. The Business Scholars Program was the most impactful opportunity and I will forever be grateful for all that it provided me with.
- Describe yourself in one or two words.
Genuine
- What is the best business advice you have received?
The best business advice that I have received is to see everything as an opportunity to grow, work hard, always be honest, treat everyone with respect, and have fun.
- What is something you learned at the Eccles School that you will never forget?
I will always remember that it is not what you know but rather who you know. Not to discount the importance of the rigorous and prestigious business education that I have been provided, but I have found that it is within the person to person connections, upon which one’s network is built, that the value associated with the education is amplified.
- What is the best way to start the day?
I believe that the best way to start the day is with an extra five minutes of sleep. Seriously though, I find I am at my best when I remind myself of that which I am grateful and to start the day with a grateful heart and positive outlook on life.
- What do you want to do in your professional career?
I have the aspiration to pursue a dual MBA/MHA degree here at the David Eccles School of Business and to merge my passions for medicine and business through a career path in the healthcare/medical industry.
- Who has been your most influential professor at the Eccles School?
Professor Michael Lewis, who has taught me life lessons, not just business, that I will carry with me throughout my entire life.
- If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winner a medal for?
Dance
- What song do you have completely memorized?
What a Wonderful World and the Utah Fight Song (for a Utah man am I… GO UTES!)
- What is your favorite memory so far at the U?
4th row seat in the MUSS!
- If you could have dinner with any person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Walt Disney because I am inspired by his magical outlook on life and humanity.
- What advice would you give to an incoming freshman at the U?

- What are you most looking forward to in the next 5-10 years?
Graduation
- What are you going to miss most about the David Eccles School of Business when you graduate?
I am going to miss the people who have made my college experience something that I will cherish forever.
- If your life were a movie, what would the title be? Who would play you?
If my life were a movie, the title would be “The Pursuit of Happiness” and Lily James would play me.
