The Department of Finance is hosting a Huntsman SportsFest cancer research fundraiser in honor of Flyn Dawson as he battles a rare form of cancer.

We hope you can participate by becoming a team member, riding or running in-person or virtually,
and/or raising funds to better understand and beat this cancer.

About Flyn

Flyn Dawson! What can be said about Flyn Dawson? He has been part of the David Eccles School of Business family since Fall of 2011 when the Department of Finance brought him on to teach Real Estate courses to undergraduates/graduate students in the Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) program, and he is currently the Director of the Ivory-Boyer Real Estate Center. Full-time, he is the Senior Vice-President/Senior Relationship Manager in the Core Real Estate Banking Group at Zions Bank. Flyn is not only a colleague at the Eccles School and Zions, but he also makes it a point to be a friend, listening ear, and genuine carer for those he comes in contact with. We consider him family.

Jump to 2014. Flyn was diagnosed with mucinous adenocarcinoma in the pelvis, which is very rare, and surgery to remove the tumor was very successful. Two years later, another tumor was found but was inoperable, and he has been receiving treatment on and off for the last 3 years. During this time, he never focused on himself and what he was going through. He always asked you how you are doing, what he could help you with and turned his energy to make sure that those he came in contact with knew they weren’t alone. We feel the same way toward Flyn.

As an Eccles School family, we are reaching out to our faculty, staff, MRED students current and past, friends, and family to participate in the 2021 Huntsman Sportsfest Saturday, June 12th.  Where ever you are, we would love for you to participate in person or virtually.

  • $250 – Discounted registration for the 2022 Huntsman SportsFest
  • $500 – Huntsman SportsFest jersey (cycling or running) and two tickets to the end-of-year Huntsman Heroes Celebration
  • $1,000 – Huntsman bib cycling shorts from DNA Cycling or Huntsman Heroes Team Jacket (to be received in September)
