Pathfinders Leadership Cohort

Fridays, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. (Detailed schedule released end of summer)

Pathfinders offers sophomore students a premier opportunity to engage in a transformative leadership experience, emphasizing goal setting, fostering strong peer connections and mentorship, and providing an impactful addition to their resumes.

Throughout the program, participants will develop their leadership skills by setting and achieving personalized goals. By the end of the academic year, they will be prepared to pursue additional campus and off-campus leadership opportunities, with greater confidence in their abilities and a deeper connection to their community. Pathfinders runs for the entire academic year of 2024-2025.

Fall Semester

Pathfinders will convene weekly or bi-weekly on Fridays from 1:00 – 2:30 P.M. These sessions will include gatherings in Homeroom with the full cohort, Clusters, or Path Pals.

  • Homeroom: The full cohort will engage in guest speaker presentations, interactive events, skill-building workshops, and field trips. Fridays, 1:00 – 2:30 P.M.
  • Clusters: Pathfinders will participate in small group discussions led by a peer mentor. Topics will include goal setting, progress monitoring, and analyzing real-world challenges using a strategic leadership framework.
  • Path Pals: Pathfinders will meet in pairs to build connections, support one another’s leadership progress, and provide insight on different goals.

Spring Semester

In the spring, Pathfinders are encouraged to take on new leadership roles across campus (e.g., student organizations, TA positions, internships, jobs). They will continue to meet periodically with a mentor to stay on track and adjust their goals.

Who should apply?

  • University of Utah students entering their sophomore year in the upcoming fall semester.

  • Students with an interest in leadership, including exploring myths, challenges, and opportunities for development.

  • Students seeking community and connections with peers.

  • Students committed to achieving their leadership goals.

  • Students eager to engage in and analyze various topics (e.g., leadership styles, social/global issues, changes in industry) through a strategic leadership framework.

Case Competitions

Case competitions are real-world challenges that provide students an opportunity to work in teams, ask questions of experts, and create solutions to the actual problems companies and organizations face.

If you are looking for hands-on learning experiences and have a competitive side, gather a team and register for the next Goff Case Competition.
