Cultivated Collective: Events hosted by artists, for artists

Mikey is a musician with a passion for community. A graduate with a B.A in Political Science and Latin American Studies, Mikey finds time to make music while working full time providing sports and recreation opportunities to Latino youth.  Inspired by the fostering of self-expression and growth through these community organizations, Mikey launched Cultivated Collective with his brother, Moe Martinez. Cultivated Collective aims to provide an opportunity for local artists to connect with one another in a recurring, interesting, and open format. The brothers are focusing on building their cohort of diverse art and artists to enable unique connections and showcase the underground art community. As an artist himself, Mikey expresses how Cultivated Collective has helped him maintain his consistency and innovation, “I’ve done things by myself, but there’s so much benefit to the network and everything around it, there are so many new opportunities when you have a place to make connections.” Mikey believes when art is always consistently being made, artists will need and want a space that will allow them to show that growth. Cultivated Collective has hosted in downtown Salt Lake City, attracting local hip-hop and R&B artists and producers. Mikey feels that these mixers and the social media content produced by Cultivated Collective will facilitate artists and art enthusiasts connecting for collaborations. The brothers have been motivated to pursue this project out of a desire to show love in the arts community; Cultivated Collective takes down the ego of the art scene as a way to spur growth and creativity. On a personal level, this project has inspired Mikey to write and produce more music.
