Kristina Derby is the 2020 outstanding graduate for her outstanding achievements in the Master of Accounting program. She will be graduating with her MAcc degree and plans to continue living in Salt Lake City with her husband after graduation where she will work at KPMG in their State and Local Tax Group. “One great reward of teaching is the opportunity to associate with outstanding individuals – who also happen to be outstanding students. Kristina fits perfectly in this figurative box. She is bright, energetic and has a zest for learning. It is no surprise that she consistently performs at the top of the class,” said Scott Pickett, Professor of Accounting. “The seeds of a powerful professional career have been planted. At some point in the future, it will be a pleasure to look back and see all Kristina has accomplished. She has a bright and awesome future in front of her.” Congratulations Kristina, and welcome to your alumni network! Read on to see Kristina’s answers to our questions about her Eccles Experience.
What was your most memorable experience as an Eccles student?
My most memorable experiences involve the teachers and students I have met here. I have made some close friends, that I hope will stay friends with me for many years to come. This is my only year as an Eccles student, and even though there were a lot of unexpected events, I wouldn’t change it for anything. Also, I will not forget the effort it took to balance earning my degree and working.
What clubs, competitions, and/or activities did you participate in?
I was a tutor for my tax classes and attended the Women’s Mentoring Program Events.
What was your favorite class?
Scott Pickett’s tax classes. I can’t choose just one.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, acknowledge or shout out?
My husband and my friends in the major, especially Hope!
