Marci received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Utah. She joined the global public accounting firm of Arthur Andersen in the Audit and Assurance Division. She joined the School of Accounting in fall of 2003. She teaches introductory classes in financial and managerial accounting in the undergraduate program and is the faculty advisor for Beta Alpha Psi. She has been fortunate to receive numerous teaching awards such as Outstanding Faculty Award for Beta Alpha Psi, Excellence in Education Award from the LDSSA, and UACPA Outstanding Educator. She was the Chapter Advocate for the Rocky Mountain and Missouri Valley Regions of Beta Alpha Psi from 2018-2021. She has also been recognized by the Daniels Fund Ethics Leadership for her work in her 2600 course creation.
Marci also enjoys the sport of women’s gymnastics and was involved as a gymnastics judge for nineteen years. As a national gymnastics judge, Marci judged at all levels of competition including NCAA Collegiate National Finals twice. Marci is married to Cleon (Lee) Butterfield (CFO of Utah Housing Corporation). They have six children, 12 granddaughters and three grandsons. She loves to exercise, cook, read, and travel. She loves the University of Utah and the opportunity to associate with amazing students and professionals.

I have been a committee member of the NAWBO U project since its inception. We meet regularly and hold a yearly conference to bring together students and working professionals. We have now started a scholarship as well. Member, 2005-present. College service.
I am currently the faculty advisor for Beta Alpha Psi, the accounting organization here at the University of Utah. We have seen tremendous growth and wonderful opportunities for the students involved. I attend regional and national meetings with my officer group and make sure that the organization runs smoothly. Parent Teacher Association, Veteran’s Day Assembly – This year, I was able to have students at Oak Hills Elementary enter essays about what it means to be an American or to enter a story about a Veteran that they have come in contact with. The winners read their essays at the assembly in front of their peers, parents, and invited veterans from the community. We also had patriotic songs that were sung by one of the classes as well as a DVD presentation that was quite touching. It was a phenomenal success! 2006-present
