MRED Mentor Program
The Mentor program is exclusive to MRED students. Students are matched with real estate professionals who are at the top of their game. The program provides a valuable opportunity for students to be mentored by local experts in development, investments, capital markets, management, banking, brokerage, corporate real estate, among others. The program adds an important dynamic to what students will gain while attending the U’s MRED program. The goal is to enhance the student experience by establishing key relationships in the industry while students are young in their careers.
Time Commitment
Students meet with their mentor once a month starting in October through March. This provides ample opportunity for interaction in various settings, without being burdensome to the mentor or student. Suggestions include allowing the assigned student to participate in company meetings and site visits/job-walks, providing feedback and advice to the student, assistance with deals students are pursuing, war stories/lessons learned, and so forth. Mentors have the freedom and flexibility to structure the mentorship schedule based on what works best. Ultimately the program allows the students to have direct access to very successful professionals in the industry which is priceless at this stage in their careers.
Application Process
Applications are accepted August 15, 2016 through September 9, 2016.
Note that not all applicants will be placed with a Mentor that is in the exact development segment that they want to be in, but efforts will be made to do so when possible. It is important for students to understand what a privilege it is to be a part of this program. Students must take the commitment seriously.
