The Graduate Certificate in Business Studies with a focus on healthcare is designed to give students an opportunity to gain exposure to some of the topics most essential for success as a healthcare manager or administrator. The certificate includes 15 credit hours from among the 6000-level courses at the David Eccles School of Business. It includes 9 credit hours of core courses and 6 credit hours of electives from the following groups.
MHA 6530 – Healthcare Administration (3.0) (fall)
MHA 6540 – Managerial Accounting & Finance for Healthcare (3.0) (spring)
MHA 6803 – Healthcare Strategic Management (3.0) (fall)
MHA 6800 – Administration & Management in Healthcare (0.5) (fall)
MHA 6801 – Healthcare Industry Players/Healthcare Systems (1.0) (spring)
MHA 6550 – Marketing for Health Professionals (3) (fall) Prerequisite courses: MHA 6530, MHA 6540
MHA 6802 – Healthcare Financial Management (3.0) (fall) Prerequisite courses: MHA 6530, MHA 6540
MHA 6804 – Principal Based Leadership in Healthcare (1.5) (spring) Prerequisite courses: MHA 6803 or instructor approval
MHA 6560 – Health Law (1.5) (not available until spring 2018)
Note: Other courses may be considered with approval of the Program Director.
Students who successfully complete the certificate and later choose to apply for admission to a graduate degree program in the David Eccles School of Business may be able to waive specific course requirements based upon the courses taken to earn the certificate. Graduate School policy allows students to transfer up to 9 credit hours of business classes taken while not matriculated into degree programs.

Applicants who are not current, matriculated University of Utah students will need to apply as a non-matriculated student to the University of Utah Admissions Office. ($45 application fee)

Non-matriculated students are required to apply for non-matriculation admission prior to applying to the certificate program. For students not currently enrolled in a graduate degree program, admission into the Graduate Certificate in Business Studies, Healthcare program is contingent upon admission to the university as a graduate non-matriculated student.
