Preferential Application

Are you a great student with strong cumulative and accounting GPAs? Did you take your Accounting courses somewhere other than the University of Utah? If so, you may qualify for the preferential application process.

MAcc prerequisites must be completed at an approved U.S. institution. Preferential application is intended for those who did not complete the prerequisites at the University of Utah.

Preferential applicants have the following requirements waived on their MAcc application:

  • GMAT score report
  • Personal statement
  • Letters of recommendation

Requirements for Preferential Application

Undergraduate GPA of 3.70+

Applicants must maintain a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.70. If your cumulative GPA is below a 3.70, you may calculate your GPA for your last 60 credit hours.

Accounting GPA of 3.70+

Accounting GPA is calculated using only the seven accounting prerequisites. See the MAcc Prerequisites page for more information. If you have completed all seven prerequisites by the application deadline, one grade may be dropped from the calculation, but you must have at least a 3.70 GPA in six of the seven courses. To calculate your accounting GPA, use the university’s GPA Calculator.

Preferential application does not guarantee admission.
All admission decisions are subject to approval by the MAcc Admissions Committee.
