This weekend the Transfer Scholars got to explore the city of Boston, Massachusetts. While it was definitely a lot colder than we are used to, it was a great trip filled with great experiences. We arrived in Boston on Thursday evening, and had a day filled with company visits and lectures the following day. My group of students went to visit Avery Dennison, a company that we were surprised to discover made a large amount of revenue by manufacturing the plastic tags and staples that are used to hold price tags and labels to clothing. They also produce auto cable ties and other packaging materials. It was a great experience to hear from a tight knit company with a focus on operations management and gave all of the students a new perspective on future careers.

We later visited TD Garden, home of the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins, where we were given an information session from a sales manager regarding business in the sports industry and the logistics that go behind organizing sales and events. It was interesting to hear the career path that she had taken to work for the Boston Celtics and I know there were a lot of students who were very interested in following a similar path. After the info session we were able to watch the Celtics vs Lakers game afterward and bond with each other! The Celtics won.

On Saturday we had the opportunity to visit Harvard University and explore some of the many historical sites of Boston. It was a wonderful trip! Go Patriots!
