The David Eccles School of Business MHA Team took second place in the University of Alabama-Birmingham national case competition.

As a team of three MHA students, on February 26, placed 2nd as the winners in the University of Alabama Healthcare case competition. A.J. Reall, Roger Phillips, and Austin Thornhill represented the MHA program, accompanied by observers Whitney Warner and Chase Wright.

The UAB case competition is one of the most prestigious in the nation, attracting teams from top MHA program around the country. Sponsored by the UAB Health System since 2007, the UAB Health Administration Case Competition provides graduate students from CAHME-accredited programs an opportunity to put what they have learned into practice with a real-life, real-time case.

Teams present their recommendations to a national panel of judges testing their analytic abilities, teamwork, communication and presentation skills.

The Eccles School team moved on to the semi-finals, and ultimately to the finals where six teams competed for top honors. The Eccles School team placed second out of the 38 teams.

First place went to the team from University of Minnesota who has placed in the top three twice, winning the competition in 2010. The Eccles School placed ahead of the team from University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill (the defending team from last year). Other schools represented in the finals included Trinity, Army-Baylor, and Saint Louis University.

Congrats MHA Students! Go Utes!
