Hunter Gurney’s family is going through an impossibly hard time.

Hunter is a student at the Eccles School, and his father, David, was diagnosed with stage 4 incurable pancreatic cancer in December.

The hospital bills have been growing steadily.

Earlier this semester, Hunter attended the Business Career Conference held by the Eccles School’s Business Career Services. It was there Hunter met Eccles School alum Cody Broderick, CEO of inwhatlanguage, a software translation company. Hunter told Cody about his family’s situations, and Cody has decided to do something about it.

A 5K superhero run, co-hosted by inwhatlanguage and the Rex Real Estate Team, will take place Saturday, May 7 at 8 a.m. The cost is $12 a person, and those under 10 are free. Strollers and families are welcome. The first 100 people to register will receive a superhero mask.

“David is a hero to his three sons and many more lives he has touched,” the announcement reads. “We need your help, and together, we can be David’s hero.”

The Utah Technology Council named Cody the Emerging Executive of the Year this April. It’s great to see the Master of Science in Information Systems graduate making a difference inside the office and out.

All of us will find ourselves facing seemingly impossible challenges, but it’s great to know the Eccles School’s amazing alumni network is here for our students in so many ways.

Best wishes, Hunter, and thank you for your support, Cody!
